College sports are very popular in the United States and the championships are organized in divisions around different sports sanctioned mainly by the NCAA, the largest college sports organization.

In 2021, an estimated 67.3 percent of male student-athletes in the United States were white, while 16.5 percent were African-American.

According to the NCAA demographic database, Black student-athletes make up 16% of the student-athlete population. In Division I, Black student-athletes are 20% of the population.

Many of our student-athletes of color especially those students living a high-poverty demographics have dreams to be given an opportunity to enter a collegiate institution and participate in sports activities while also obtaining a degree. The ultimate goal.

Problem is...

Lack of Funding

Many student-athletes in high-poverty neighborhoods often don't have the capacity to fund their college education and access to free education is very limited.

Opportunity "gap" for children in high poverty demographics

High-poverty neighborhoods typically have less access to collegiate scholarship opportunities, making it harder for children of color to transcend seemingly insurmountable sociological and economic factors.

Lack of Collegiate scholarships and access being provided to children of color

Many kids from lower income families don't have the same opportunities to get sponsored for a scholarship and most of them cannot afford to go to college without one.

OUR MISSION

KDT Sports is an academic and athletic training program supporting children of color who lack the needed resources to obtain collegiate scholarships.

The mission of KDT Sports is to provide an accessible sports facility to youth in need of athletic and academic support to provide options to encourage them to refrain from engaging in negative activities.

The Chicagoland area currently has sports facility options that each present a different challenge for student-athletes such as location, cost, demographics, and programs being offered that don’t meet the need of the student or parent.

Amani is a student-athlete who was born and raised in Chicago. He grew up in a community where you needed to watch out for your back to feel safe. As a result, he faced many obstacles as he grew up. Despite the challenges, Amani has been able to overcome them with support from KDT Sports/Community Excel.

KDT Sports/Community Excel has provided Amani with an opportunity to develop his talents as an athlete while also preparing him academically for college. The program offers tutoring services, academic workshops, college prep classes, leadership development opportunities, mentorship networks, and more.

Amani says that the most important thing KDT Sports/Community Excel did for him was giving him hope. He says: "I didn't think I would be able to go to college one day because of my grades… but KDT Sports helped me change my life."

KDT Sports/Community Excel planted a seed of hope in Amani by preparing him to obtain collegiate scholarships and academic degrees—and ultimately change his life. Listen to how they did it →

Her [Kamilah] taking me under her wing, she helped me get a job that I'm still working on today. Currently, she always looking out for the better with everybody she takes on her when I was playing division one football at the University of Iowa, as I said before, but she helped me get my AC T where it needs to be so I can get into the school.

OUR VISION

Because sports are such a valuable tool for ensuring success in life, we believe everyone should be allowed affordable opportunities to learn and compete.

KDT Sports and Community Excel aims to put the power of sport in the hands of our nation's most needed communities -- low-income students who look like them.

We want to ensure that every child has the opportunity to develop their athletic potential in ways that lead to successful careers and a better life for them and their families.

And as with athletics, we'll provide academic support as well so that they'll have ties that last long after they graduate from youth sports.

In our GIVING TUESDAY, we're raising money so we can connect more youth with the resources they need to succeed academically and athletically on their path toward growing up into successful young men and women who build strong families.

We want to level the playing field for children in low income demographics by providing the same opportunities for them too.

Help us achieve our goal by funding for the facilities they need to support their success for kids in high-poverty neighborhoods, who live in a "championship community", but can't afford to go to college because they lack the sponsorships and the facilities and resources they need.

ABOUT KDT SPORTS

30 years of combined experiences, top educator meets veteran athletic guru and they change the trajectories of student athlete's lives together

At KDT Sports, we value the importance of high-quality athletic training for all student-athletes. We know that the hardest part of being a parent is knowing that your child is ready for more—and that you can't give it to them. It's hard to watch them struggle with their homework when you don't have the resources or connections to help them get ahead.

But we do! We've been around since 2015 and have helped hundreds of student-athletes achieve their goals. And we're just getting started!

KDT Sports was founded by Dr. Kamilah Hampton, a sports mom who saw a huge need in the Chicagoland area and David Reed, a respected baseball coach experienced seeing a need for high-quality athletic training among black and brown athletes. Together, they created an organization dedicated to giving students the tools they need to succeed academically and athletically—because we believe that academics are just as important as athletics!

In order to meet this goal, KDT Sports has partnered with Chicago Public Schools (CPS) to provide after-school programming at CPS schools throughout Chicago. Students can enroll in our program through their school districts or directly through KDT Sports.
